Happy Mother's Day to all the Cocker Spaniel moms.
This is to all the moms who have kids with four legs. --- feed them, walk them, take them to the doctor, and love them unconditionally. --- Happy Mother's Day!
I recently saw this story on social media and, a it brought back a million different emotions because I remember my girlfriend and mentor pretty much doing the same type of rescue just a few short years ago. The above rescue was the result of an Amish puppy mill being closed down. Most of the dogs that were surrendered have never known life outside of a cage. They do not know the feeling of grass beneath their feet. --- nor do they know the loving touch of a hand petting them. It will be a long road to recovery for some and, an even longer road to recovery for others.
The little girl that was brought to my home back in August of 2022 came from the exact same circumstances. I want to acknowledge just how much work it is for the foster home. --- it truly is a labor of love. It took my white shadow over 2 years to even trust my husband. --- and now. --- she adores him.
I also want to add that many people will think that this rescue was the result of a puppy mill being shut down by the authorities and, it is unfortunately, the norm that these unethical breeders will reach out and contact a rescue organization to care for the dogs that they themselves refused to care for. --- for years. These dogs have been denied a decent life as well as medical attention. This rescue was all surrenders, which means that whomever owned/operated this puppy mill decided they did not want to spend one dime on these dogs that have been a source of income for them for years. Instead, they called a rescue organization in order to provide medical attention and, place the dogs in loving foster homes so they can now learn how to really be a dog.
I wish all of these souls the same life my Gracie now enjoys. She now knows the loving touch of a hand. The feel of grass beneath her feet. The joy of catching a ball and even chasing a bird. But, most of all she knows how to be a dog!
These Kingdom boxes are being marketed as curated "durable gift boxes" for dogs of various sizes. They are being sold as an overpriced box of dog toys/treats in order to raise money for a dog sanctuary that has been in the works for five years now. Apparently Brandon and Julia are moving to a larger piece of property to begin construction on a dog sanctuary that will house the hard to place dogs coming from animal shelters. They have recently grifted on social media platforms to the tune of $250k to begin the process of breaking ground. --- as well as building a new home for themselves.
As an individual who is heavily involved with rescuing and fostering dogs --- $250k is a drop in the pan for a dream of this size. It can cost in the thousands of dollars to rescue just one dog. And, let's be honest. --- Julia doesn't need to be on social media grifting for money to build a new home in order to save dogs. The individual that I foster for has been running her rescue organization out of her house for years. She uses her cell phone, her personal credit card, and the contacts she has made over the decades --- and; from that she has made a difference in the lives of hundreds and hundreds of dogs. Julia doesn't need a new home with a shingle hung outside or a new piece of property. She could easily be doing something right now.
And, let's not ignore the glaring conflict of interest because her in laws. --- Betty and Ron (Brandon's parents) --- own and operate a large-scale backyard breeding business just hours from where Julia intends to build her dog sanctuary. I'm really finding it hard to understand how Julia is expecting to enter the world of dog rescue without first acknowledging that her in laws are unethical breeders who contribute to the problem of overpopulated animal shelters.
This $250k sounds more like a cushion for their bank account than anything!
