Advice on Leica M6 Reissue

I've posted about my "Like New" everything works Leica M6 Reissue from Leica Classic website but it arrived with INOP light meter..

I'm currently in the process of Returning the M6, but I will lose $469.88 tax + Import fees.

Camera cost $4291.72

Totalling: 4761.6

Most eBay M6 Reissue going for $5200+

What would you guys do?

  1. return Leica M6 Taking the $469.88 loss, Use $4291.72 into something else or just stay with my trusty Canon SLRs. (I will not be buying into another Leica... Maybe.)

  2. send it to Leica USA for 17-18 week turnaround and enjoy the camera in the Fall season into winter?

  3. send to 3rd party Leica camera repair like DAG and pay additional $280+ for light meter repair with a 3 week turnaround.

Im older so I wanted to finally buy the camera I couldn't afford growing up and enjoy it for 10+yrs hopefully. My disappointment has me wanting to return the camera take the hit and keep the rest of my $$$.

Im also wondering am I still ahead even with the light meter broken and fixing it? If the M6 Reissue is going for 5k+ like eBay shows. I also need to look at this from a financial standpoint.

Would you guys keep or return.

The light meter on my 2023 Leica M6 Reissue failed but my Canon AE1 program purchased in 2002 from a coworker who had it since the 90s and Mamiya Purchased in 2014 still going strong.

I recently purchased this Leica M6 from Leica Camera Classic with a 2yr warranty. It came from Leica Austria in "like new" Condition everything works. The camera arrived April 29th. Checked everything out when it arrived. At first the light meter wasn't working I figured maybe I mixed old batteries with new ones? But I got a set to work, and decided to order new pack or batteries both LR44 and 1/3N. Today I was going to have time to shoot in the morning so I tested the camera last night and realized the light meter not working again? I figured maybe the batteries were very low, luckily I just got my new pack. I replaced the batteries the light meter didn't come on immediately but eventually it started working. I figured odd but I'm good for the morning.

This morning I test the camera once again everything seemed fine get my roll of Portra I head out. When I get to the place I test the camera one more time, light meter not working again? I'm like no way those batteries were out in last night! Lucky I had extra LR44 and 1/3N with me but none of the. New batteries worked. Light meter no longer operated.

I emailed Leica USA to see if 2yr warranty is valid in US. Im also within the 14 day full refund window from leica classic camera incase warranty not honored.

I find this situation funny and frustrating at the same time. A 2023 made Leica is not something I expect to have a failure 3yrs later while a Canon from 90s never been serviced is still going strong.
