UK troubleshooting - BT Smart Hub 2
My Portal generally plays really nicely with my hardwired PS5 Pro. It looks sharp at max resolution settings, has minimal latency and is smooth as silk.
However, like clockwork, it loses connection every 20 minutes. There’s no deterioration in quality prior to it happening - the picture just suddenly freezes. Interestingly, I can continue to control the game when this happens so can reactively hit the pause button, but shortly after I get booted to the portal circle and get a message saying I lost connection to the PS5 with a choice to reconnect.
I can always reconnect immediately and continue for another 20 minutes before it happens again.
The consistent regularity of this suggests a clear underlying cause, but I’ve not yet identified it:
I’ve tried all bitrate settings, I’ve reset and repaired the Portal, I’ve power cycled the PS5 Pro, I’ve disabled HDCP, I’ve disabled HDMI smartlink, I’ve tried full and limited data reporting, I’ve tried setting static IPs on both PS5 Pro and Portal, I’ve power cycled the Smart Hub, and nothing changes - every 20 minutes I get disconnected in the same way.
I’d love to know if any other BT Smart Hub 2 users in the UK are experiencing the same thing, as I’m keen to diagnose where the issue lies and if it’s exclusive to my network or if there’s a wider compatibility issue.
I’d also love to know if anyone else has experienced similar and managed to resolve it in recent updates.
I’ve had the Portal since launch but never used it much because I was never happy with image quality - from the year one stutters, to slightly muddy image quality from capped bitrate, I never really took to it. However, the recent update with increased bitrate has turned it into something I’m genuinely wanting to use more, but the 20 minute disconnects are impossible to look past.
Appreciative of any help!
