Does ‘speak about’ sound informal in a formal speech?
I’m preparing a formal speech on Massachusetts and used the line: “Today, I would like to speak about Massachusetts.”
Some people told me this is informal and that formal English should instead be: “I am going to speak on the topic of Massachusetts.”
Personally, I feel “speak about” sounds more natural and still formal. What do native/fluent English speakers think? Which sounds better in an actual formal speech or presentation?
