Green card maintenance question
This situation has been stressing me out a lot lately.
I’m currently doing mandatory military service in my home country and still have about a year left before I plan to move back to the US permanently. For the past year or so, I’ve been returning to the US every 4–5 months and usually staying for 2–3 weeks at a time. I maintain a US address, file taxes, and my family lives in the US, so I still have strong ties there and fully intend to live there permanently once my service ends.
I haven’t applied for a reentry permit yet since none of my trips abroad have exceeded a year, but I’m planning to apply for one the next time I’m back in the US.
The thing is, even though I’ve never had any problems entering the US so far, I constantly feel anxious that eventually an officer is going to think I abandoned my residency or give me a hard time over the travel pattern. It’s gotten to the point where I stress before every flight back.
Has anyone here gone through something similar or know how situations like this are generally viewed?
