So I'm a locksmith with about 7 1/2 years of experience. 6 years at a local locksmith in Indianapolis and about a year and a half at the University of Louisville. In Louisville I suffered a back injury and ended up needing spinal fusion surgery. This led to my bring off work for about 3 years. I've had a few jobs here and there for about a month at a time but I haven't had any luck getting back into locksmithing.
I have a few potential opportunities including IU Indianapolis, University of Maryland hospital, and believe it or not the University of Hawaii.
My question is this normal for locksmiths? I got into this field thinking I'd be able to take my skills anywhere and find work. So far I'm finding that to find a position that pays what my experience is worth I'm going to have to move, potentially pretty far from my current home in southern Indiana.
Thank you for your time and input.
