Why do Japanese mahjong players prefer to use Japanese terms but Chinese mahjong players don't use Chinese terms?

Japanese players tend to use Japanese terms for all game terminology, but I don't see Chinese variant (MCR/Hong Kong/others) doing the same. In fact, all English MCR fan lists I've found use translated hand names rather than the Chinese names. Is there a reason for this? (Do MCR players really prefer to say "greater honors and knitted tiles" vs "qixing bukao"?)
