[Before you read this, I just want you to know that I'm aware it's entirely my fault and that Vgen had no part in my failure to submit the illustration on time.]
I had started working on this peice in the middle of April, not consistently but when I did find time, I'd work on it.
I knew the deadline was steadily approaching so I decided to prioritize it.
I wanted to put my best work out there for the chance of receiving an artist code so I stayed up all night (literally) trying to get it done before the deadline.
I knew the deadline was 11:59pm ET as that was what was stated on Vgen's discord.
I was in a (GMT) time zone so I did a basic Google search to find the equivalent of 11:59pm ET in GMT.
I was given 4:59am as the definitive answer, even when I used the conversation calculators but In my sleep deprived state I may have used EST instead of ET and had forgotten to account for Daylight saving time.
I finally completed the illustration and exported it around 4:25 GMT. Feeling confident that I still had 35 minutes to spare, I was ready to make my submission.
Only to find a new contest had already taken it's place and the previous one had ended.
I even thought it closed an hour early...I was devastated.
It's quite unfortunate...Vgen is not to blame for my mistake and there was definitely a lesson learned.
I blame myself for relying so heavily on the deadline I had in my head. Still, it's hard not to feel like hours of work went down the drain for nothing.
I'm still proud of what I made so I would like to share it here even if it counts for nothing.
