A Memory Without a Name
Hiro silently stares at his hand.

The room is dark, except for the moonlight shining through the window.

His chest feels tight.

Hiro:

"Why was I crying..?"

He tries remembering the dream, but he can't make sense of it.

All he remembers is an oh-so familiar warmth.

As the sun rises, we cut to Zero Two.

Zero Two quietly sits at the end of her bed, staring at the honey candy wrapper from yesterday.

For some reason, her chest feels strangely heavy.

Zero Two:

"Why do I feel so empty..?"

Zero Two reaches toward her eye.

Zero Two:

"Why does my eye feel so.... weird..."

"Was I crying?"

As she looks out the window, something flashes through her mind.

A picture book, with torn out pages.

Zero Two reaches for her head.

Zero Two:

"What... was that?"

As the scene cuts to Zero Two sitting in the bus, you can see her mind is still somewhere else.

Zero Two stares at the floor of the bus, trying to figure out what it was she saw.

But before she can make sense of it, Hiro greets her at the station.

Hiro:

"Hey Zero Two! Woke up early and couldn't fall asleep again, so thought I'd walk with you!"

Zero Two looks at Hiro for a moment.

Somehow, just hearing his voice made that heavy feeling in her chest ease slightly.

Zero Two:

"You really are weird sometimes, Hiro."

Hiro gives Zero Two a honey candy.

Hiro:

"I remembered you told me you liked these."

As Zero Two takes the candy, her chest tightens again.

But this time, it doesn't feel painful.

If anything, it made her heart beat faster.

Zero Two:

"Thanks!"

The scene cuts to Zero Two sitting in history class.

Zero Two:

"Why did my heart beat... so fast back there?"

A small pause.

Zero Two:

"Why couldn't I calm down...?"

"What did I dream about?"

"Why did I feel so empty after?"

A small pause.

Zero Two:

"Why did it feel so... real?"

As the bell rings, Zero Two walks to the cafeteria.

As Zero Two sits down, Hiro arrives.

Hiro:

"Today feels.. weird."

Zero Two:

"Why?"

Hiro:

"I honestly got no idea, it just feels... off today."

Hiro looks down at his tray.

An awkward silence settles between them once again.

Even sitting right next to each other, something feels strangely distant.

Zero Two quietly unwraps the honey candy Hiro gave her earlier.

As she looks at it, that same strange warmth passes through her chest again.

Zero Two:

"Hiro..."

Hiro looks up.

Zero Two:

"Have you ever felt like you forgot something important?"

Hiro:

"What do you mean?"

Zero Two:

"Like an important memory, something you forgot that might have meant a lot to you."

Hiro:

"Yeah I guess... I mean everyone probably has something they forgot."

As the bell rings, we cut to Hiro at home.

Hiro:

"Why did I say that...."

A small pause.

Hiro:

"I should've just kept it to myself."

Hiro lays down on his bed.

Hiro:

"What was that dream today?"

"Why did I wake up crying?"

A small pause.

"Why did it feel so.... real?"

The scene switches to Zero Two's room.

Zero Two:

"Why did I ask him that?"

"Why did he sound so confused?"

A small pause.

Zero Two:

"Was the question really that weird?"

"Why did my heart race after he gave me that honey candy?"

"What was that thing that flashed through my mind today?"

"Why did I feel so warm inside when talking to him?"

"Why did today feel so... weird?"

For just a second, thunder rumbles through the sky.

But not normal thunder.

A purple thunderbolt.

CUT TO BLACK.

END OF EPISODE.

Darling In The Franxx - Still With You
Episode 2 - A Lingering Warmth
As Hiro wakes up, he can't get what his mom said out of his head.
Hiro:
"Do I really look happier ever since then?"
A small pause.
Hiro:
"Why did my heart start racing just thinking about her?"
Hiro stares out the window, slowly zoning out.
Hiro:
"I mean.. I like her, but do I like her like that?"
As Hiro zones out, the screen slowly starts to fade to black, until it cuts to Hiro sitting in English class.
Hiro:
"What did she mean to tell me yesterday?"
As Hiro stares out the window, watching the raindrops race as the petals start falling in this rainy autumn.
Hiro:
"It couldn't have been that important, right....? But what if it was?"
Teacher:
"Does anyone know how to use the word 'Darling' in a sentence?"
Some kids laugh.
Some kids ignore the question.
But the word darling keeps echoing through Hiro's mind.
As Hiro's chest tightens, an oh so familiar sense of comfort passes through him, for just a moment.
Before fading away as quickly as it came.
Teacher:
"Hiro?"
A small pause.
Teacher:
"Hiro, are you okay?"
Hiro:
"Sorry ma'am, zoned out."
As English class ends, Hiro goes to the cafeteria where Zero Two already is.
Hiro:
"Why did I feel so weird after she said darling... What was that.....?"
Zero Two once again steals a fry off of Hiro's plate.
But instead of saying something...
He blushes slightly.
Zero Two:
"Why are you so quiet today?"
Hiro:
"It's.... nothing."
As the school bell rings, the once loud cafeteria becomes silent.
The scene slowly shifts to Hiro sitting in Math class.
Hiro:
"Should I tell her?"
A small pause.
Hiro:
"I'm unsure if I even feel like that myself..... But it's the closest I've ever felt to someone before."
A warmth slowly spreads through his chest.
Hiro:
"I wanna make sure she's safe. No matter what."
As the final bell rings, Hiro and Zero Two see each other for the last time that day.
Hiro:
"Zero Two, wait!"
Zero Two:
"What's up Hiro?"
Hiro:
"Nevermind... Just leave it."
A small awkward pause passes between them, as they're waiting on each other to say something.
Hiro:
"Can I walk you home? I'll just take the bus back, I just want to talk."
Zero Two:
"Sure! I would love that!"
As Hiro hears Zero Two agree, he blushes slightly, which almost catches Zero Two's attention.
Zero Two:
"Sorry for asking, but out of all days why today?"
Hiro:
"I don't know myself. Guess I just felt like it."
A small awkward silence settles between them, with neither of them saying anything.
Hiro:
"Here, a honey candy, I packed it today but I don't feel like eating it."
Zero Two:
"Thanks! I actually love these candies, I don't know why, or when I started liking them, but I just did."
Hiro:
"Haha, I used to love them as a kid, I got them from my parents after blood tests."
As Zero Two gets home, Hiro heads back with the bus.
Hiro:
"What was that earlier today? Why did I feel comfort when someone said darling?"
As he zones out, that moment in class plays on repeat.
As Hiro gets home, he finds out his mom is still at work.
While he's doing his homework, there's one question waiting for him.
'How do you use 'Darling' in a sentence?'
His chest tightens as that same sense of comfort passes through him again, disappearing almost instantly.
Hiro:
"Why do I keep feeling that with the word darling?"
He pinches himself to make sure he's not dreaming.
Hiro:
"What is this feeling?"
He falls asleep.
In the middle of the night, Hiro suddenly jolts awake.
Hiro rubs his eyes.
Hiro:
"Why are my fingers wet?"

Since some people actually loved that 1 scene I wrote I decided to actually write out the entire series, No idea when I'll post them, 1 promise is I won't rush them

Episode 1

A Strange Warmth

The giant tree sways softly in the wind.

Cherry blossoms drift through the air as a girl with long pink hair stumbles forward, tripping near the roots of the tree.

After hitting the ground, a boy helps her up.

For a moment, everything feels… silent.

The sounds around them fade.

The two stare at each other in silence, like they've seen each other somewhere before.

The girl slowly pulls herself back up, brushing dirt off her clothes awkwardly.

Zero Two:

“Oww.”

Hiro:

“Are you okay?”

Zero Two:

“Who are you?”

Hiro:

“Me? My name is Hiro, what about you?”

Zero Two:

“Zero Two, nice to meet you.”

A strange feeling hangs between them.

Unfamiliar, yet strangely warm.

A gust of wind passes through the tree above them, petals swirling around the two.

Zero Two looks back at him one last time before smiling softly.

Zero Two:

“Feels like we’ve met before somehow, somewhere.”

Hiro freezes slightly.

Hiro:

“...Yeah.”

The screen slowly fades to black.

Text appears:

“3 years later.”

As the text disappears, we see Hiro getting ready for school, making sure his homework is done, while eating natto and rice, thinking about which classes he has today.

Hiro:

"Thanks for the food mom, it was delicious once again."

Hiro's mom:

"Glad to hear you enjoyed it honey."

Hiro:

"I'm off to school, see you later!"

As Hiro walks to school, he notices an ominous feeling.

Hiro:

"What was that? That felt weird... It's probably nothing."

As the morning passes, the screen cuts to lunch break.

The cafeteria is loud.

Students talking over each other, chairs scraping across the floor, someone laughing way too hard at the other side of the room.

Hiro and Zero Two sit across from each other near the window.

Zero Two steals a fry off Hiro’s tray without asking.

Hiro:

“You have your own fries.”

Zero Two:

“Yeah, but yours looked better.”

Hiro sighs.

Hiro:

“You say that every day.”

Zero Two grins slightly before leaning back in her chair.

A comfortable, yet awkward silence settles between them.

The kind that only happens when two people have known each other for a long time.

Zero Two looks out the cafeteria window briefly.

Zero Two:

“Feels weird today.”

Hiro looks up.

Hiro:

“What does?”

Zero Two shrugs.

Zero Two:

“Don't know.”

A small pause.

Zero Two:

“Like something’s gonna happen soon.”

Hiro laughs quietly.

Hiro:

“That sounds ominous.”

Zero Two:

“Maybe it is.”

The bell suddenly rings loudly through the school.

Both of them flinch at the loud sound at the same time.

They look at each other for a second.

Then immediately look away again.

Hiro:

“We should head to class.”

Zero Two:

“Yeah.”

As the bell rings in the background, Hiro and Zero Two head off to different classes, both unable to shake the strange feeling in the air.

As Hiro sits in his math class, looking out the window, he watches the raindrops fall.

Suddenly, the teacher calls him up for a problem.

Teacher:

"Hiro, how do we solve this equation."

"Hiro?"

Hiro:

"Sorry miss, you solve this by moving the X over so the equation equals Y."

As class finishes, Hiro and Zero Two, needing to go in opposite directions, start parting ways.

Zero Two:

“Hiro, wait.”

Hiro looks back at Zero Two.

Zero Two:

“Nevermind...”

As Hiro heads home, he can't get whatever she needed to say out of his head.

The streets are quieter.

The sounds of the city slowly starts fading.

Hiro sighs.

Hiro:

"What did she want to say? What was that supposed to mean?"

For some reason he can't understand, his heart starts racing.

As Hiro comes home, his mother greets him.

Hiro's mom:

"Hey honey how was school?"

Hiro:

"It was alright, I'll head to my room to finish my homework, give me a shout when dinner is ready, please."

Hiro's mom:

"I'll give you a shout, it's weird but it feels like you've been happier ever since meeting that girl."

Hiro blushes slightly.

As Hiro is doing his homework, the screen slowly fades to black.

CUT TO BLACK.

End of Episode 1.

I wrote a sequel concept for Darling in the Franxx, Still With You.

This is one of the key scenes I ended up writing (end of Episode 5 in a 12 episode season).

Raindrops start falling from the clear night sky, forming a uncomfortable mood.

Hiro and Zero Two stand facing each other at the middle of the park, where it all started.

Neither of them moves.

Just silence.

Hiro looks at her, hesitant.

Hiro (quietly):
“…This is going to sound crazy.”

Zero Two tilts her head slightly, watching him.

Hiro:
“I keep seeing things… things that don't make sense."

"Things that shouldnt be possible, yet feel so real."

His hand start shaking.

Hiro (soft):
“A red sky… a book… and you.”

Zero Two’s eyes widen—just slightly.

Rain runs down her face.

Zero Two (whisper):
“…You too?”

A small pause.

Zero Two:
“I thought they were just dreams…”

She takes a step closer.

Zero Two (soft, almost trembling):
“A picture book… and us… together.”

Hiro’s breath catches.

The distance between them closes.

A faint melody begins—familiar.

Fragments flash:

A torn up picture book

a girl with horns reaching out

a soft voice, barely audible: '... darling.'

They stop inches apart.

Zero Two looks at him, eyes shaking.

Zero Two (barely a whisper):
“…It was you.”

The music builds.

They lean in—

KISS.

— On the drop —

Time slows.

Close-up: Zero Two’s face.

Beneath her wet hair…

Two faint horn buds press against her skin.

Her lips part slightly—

A glimpse of small fangs.

Her eyes widen.
