Post menopause voice issues

I'm 55 and used to sing pretty well! My speaking voice is high, yet I had more of a tenor/alto range. I started perimenopause early...around 38 years old, and am now 6 years into post menopause.

My voice started changing towards the end of perimenopause. I could no longer sing along with people like Siouxsie or PJ Harvey, but did alright singing along with male singers. Now I sound like Tom Waits if he inhaled helium. I just can't seem to get my vocal chords to cooperate properly anymore.

I guess I just wanna know if I'm hopeless. It depresses me a bit that I am unable to sing anymore. I love singing! Can my vocal chords ever work properly again? Are there any resources I can access to help post-menopausal women sing again? I appreciate any advice ❤️

Edit to add that I can't afford a doctor or insurance. I'm in the US and doctors are incredibly expensive. So is insurance. I just can't do it, unfortunately. If there are other options, I'd be so happy!

If you had the ear of a city council member...

What would you say pisses you off the most about how the city works? What would say you like the most about city policy? I'm just curious.

Let's play a game...

How many of you have said to someone "There's a Ren song for that" in conversations? I definitely have! Haha!

For example, one day a co-worker and I were talking about the evils of greed. I had already told her about Ren and said, "There's a song for that...actually many songs." Then she started talking about the seven sins. Again, "There's a song for that." She hadn't heard his music yet, but since has had a listen to my recommendations and now loves him.

On a different day, I was talking to a different co-worker and she was talking about how hard it was for her to find a good doctor who will actually listen to her. "There's a Ren song for that...a few. Have you heard of Ren?" Turns out she had and loves him already...haha!

Have you guys found yourselves doing this?

I don't take complete credit for this idea. This all stemmed from a conversation with the other mods and I. I just wanted to post it and see what others have to say. It does seem there's always "a song for that" haha!

Tips for new Renegades

Quite frequently, we get brand spanking new Renegades here. If you happen to be one of them, I would like to help you along your trip down the rabbit hole a bit.

First of all, welcome! We're happy to have you here! You're about to go on quite a journey! Haha! Ren is a multi-genre artist, and you're probably gonna be surprised with what you find more than once.

My first tip is to please go watch his Chapters on his RenMakesStuff youtube channel, and sub while you're there 😀 He tells his story about how he got sick and what he went through to find decent doctors and treatment. He also explains aspects of his life that will make his lyrics make more sense as you discover more of his music. You can find the Chapters playlist here: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLKFO0C0E7JcvUyYZSyte8omVITyIKoS17&si=sBxjMtkPMtEPCRf9

Another video that adds some insight about the kind of person Ren is is his One Million Subscribers video. He's so genuinely grateful and kind ❤️ https://youtu.be/0GeheniEoNg?si=cG4oFG6zX-tTy739

Ren and his bands also have youtube channels to sub to and explore. The first is Ren's main channel, RenMakesMusic. There's also a channel for The Big Push, who he's currently touring with. The Big Push consists of Ren (duh) and his friends Romain, Gorran, and Glenn, and they are fantastic together (and on their own)! Then there's the channel for Trick the Fox, which is Ren's early, early band. We call him Baby Ren in that one because he was so very young, but he was still ridiculously talented, and the music is awesome!

You will come across the name Kujo. I beg of you to NOT watch the Kujo Beatdown music video without knowing the story behind it. It's a lengthy story, but without it, the Beatdown song/video won't make as much sense. It's essential to watch this first. Here is that story: https://youtu.be/K72abdMZbGA

Ren also collaborates with lots of people! I will list a few and encourage others to leave their favorites in the comments, because I'm probably forgetting some. Sam Tompkins, Chinchilla, The Skinner Brothers, Token, Webby, Liv Sangster, and Eden Nash are notable ones. And Holy crap, please go watch Ren's appearance on Charlie Sloth's Fire in the Booth! It's insane! https://youtu.be/YHRDWotdCfE

One question that often pops up with new Renegades is what order to watch "The Tales" in. Luckily, Ren has posted a playlist for that. You can find that here: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLHbj3Gti2ieP7QLrMzofRRPq\_PG5oqrYR&si=Z-CeQA0OmeYFqMw9

I've tried to be as helpful and as extensive as possible. I encourage people to leave tips for new Renegades that I've forgotten to add. I woke up not long ago, and my brain needs coffee...haha!

I hope everyone enjoys their adventure, and I wish everyone a most lovely day ❤️

Edit to say that this isn't meant to be in a particular order, really, except for the Kujo stuff. This is just what came outta my brain at the time of writing. By my first tip, I meant that's the first thing I thought of to write. Plus, people are adding all kinds of cool stuff in the comments that I didn't mention. Yay! I thank all of you for helping out 😃

Baby Ren

I love seeing how young Ren was in Trick the Fox! So very young, yet still insanely talented. As a mom, I just wanna squeeze his cheekers and hug him up...haha!

Here's one of the early songs that I truly love.

For anyone interested, they also have an entire youtube channel for Trick the Fox 😃
