Need Help.

How do you handle a boss who shouts a lot?

Not just at me, but at everyone.

The strange part is that the next moment he acts completely normal and chill, but I feel like I’m getting emotionally affected by it. Even when he calls me for something routine, my heart starts racing. Sometimes my mind goes completely blank and I can’t focus properly. My body even feels cold during those moments. Is this a normal stress response, or am I overreacting?

I have been working in accounting and finance for the past four years, primarily in junior roles. I have recently been promoted to a senior position, specifically as the Finance Head for a business unit. While this is a significant step forward, I find myself struggling to adapt to the responsibilities that come with it.

The main challenge I face is team management, as I have no prior experience leading a team. I find it difficult to maintain the right balance, when I am too strict, I feel uncomfortable, yet when I adopt a more lenient and friendly approach, the work does not get done effectively.

To add to this, one of my team members has a direct relationship with the CFO, which makes the dynamic particularly tricky. He does not seem to regard me as his superior, but rather as a peer, which undermines my authority. I am also hesitant to escalate this concern to my own manager, as I am unsure whether my complaint will be taken seriously.

Overall, being new to the role and under probation has made it difficult for me to take confident and decisive action. I feel stuck and would greatly appreciate any guidance or suggestions on how to navigate this situation.
