48 hours gap between completing studies and PGWP application
Hi everyone,
I’m preparing my Express Entry profile for CEC and ran into a technicality regarding my work authorization dates. I’m curious if anyone else has dealt with this.
My Timeline:
Jan 16, 2025: Received my official program completion letter (Thursday).
Jan 16, 2025: Started a new casual contract (Govt job).
Jan 18, 2025: Submitted my PGWP application (Saturday).
The Issue:
Under IRCC regulations, my right to work as a student ended the moment I got that completion letter on the 16th. I didn't regain full-time work authorization until I submitted the PGWP on the 18th.
This means there’s a 2-day gap (Jan 16-17) where I worked but technically wasn't authorized. My employment letter from my manager explicitly states my start date as Jan 16.
My Plan:
In my EE profile, I plan to list my work start date as Jan 18 so I don't claim points for unauthorized work.
I’m going to include an LoE explaining that while my contract started on the 16th, I am only claiming experience from the 18th onwards.
Could anyone please give any insights about this issue?
