Hi Everyone,
I purchased pre owned 2023 EQS450 4Matic with a bunch of extras (AMG in and out, new steering wheel, different seats…etc) last month in California and really love the car.
Issue that I’m having is with cracked rim(s) and broken tires (steel wire exposed). I was driving last night and got my tire pressure down to 10 PSI, tried to inflate back to 42 PSI but could hear the hissing sound coming out of inner side of the wheel.
Got AAA towing on site, guy took the wheel off and found cracked rim on the inner side and huge gash (about 4-5 inches long) on the tire with exposed wire. I’m suspecting other rims might have the same issue as I’ve seen air pressure dropped on all of them earlier this week to about 33 PSI.
I’ve seen posts and class action on S Class models where they had similar issues with cracked rims and tires but not sure if that went through.
I have purchased comprehensive extended warranty up to 2029 and/or 75,000 miles (currently at 27,000) but tires and wheels are excluded. Carfax is showing that tire and/or tire(s) have been replaced in 2024 and 2025 - not sure if one or more. It also lists on the carfax report they the car has been serviced and inspected to include rims and tires prior to this sale. All tires on the car now were manufactured in 2023 (hence suspicion of them never being replaced). Tires had a decent amount of traction and looked ok visually from one side.
What are my options here? Can I ask the dealer to replace tires as they have stated tires have been replaced and inspected prior sale? What about cracked rim? Is there any way I can get the dealer to get this fixed without shelling out $5,000 for a new set of wheels and tires from my own pocket?
Do I expect to replace the rims yet again in 3 years or so due to car being too heavy ?
Super frustrated here and disappointed.
