Sorry to contribute to the mass of questions.
I’m a big Jack white, perfect circle, chevelle, and Queens of the Stone Age fan. I’ve played guitar for an over 10 years but for some reason have been really falling out of playing and am trying to get back into it but it’s been difficult. I have a quad cortex but I struggle to get good tones sometimes possibly due to user error or not understanding how to dial in tones much.
All that aside, I bought the John Mayer plugin because I can (sort of) play some of his songs and it’s fun to have the sound and play along. So I have been playing a little bit! So I was wondering if maybe plugins are going to get me to play since the sounds are a bit more out of the box with all the presets.
The dilemma is if it’s actually going to get me to play or not. I don’t want to throw money at something if it’s not actually going to help my issue. But I am pretty new to the world of dialing in tones. Are there plugins that can really get me these tones pretty quickly, or should I be turning to my quad more? If the answer is the quad, what resources did you use to learn how to dial in tones? If plugins, which plugins would you recommend?
Thank you all!
A struggling guitarist
Edit: I guess for context, I’ve been playing about 13 years off and on through high school and college. I have never had a teacher (unless you count rocksmith when I was young) so if you all have some good recommendations for videos or other resources to learn that would be great! I’ve never learned scales or modes and have always wanted to be an excellent guitarist but never knew where to start
