Just in case this is helpful to anyone... had AI crunch some numbers in reference to some NFL salary data, to come up with recommended ranges.

In applying this to my franchise, my thought is to go thru occasionally and pinpoint areas in which player salaries are spiraling out of control, and to make adjustments as needed across the board. Was thinking this could help out with problems where all the teams are exceeding the cap a few years in.

Injuries: still seeing the CPU teams having significantly more injuries. Playing with the injury slider seems to have drastic effect at times... one tick of increase and players are being hurt on almost every play, then lowering it back down makes the injuries rare. In most cases the injuries my players sustain aren't carried over after the game, post-game my injury report will be clean. Also noticed players don't seem to appear as questionable/probable/doubtful... it's either no injury--will play or out--won't play. When we talk about sliders like "per-play recovery" does that feed into injuries at all, or is that more about the physical performance/stamina?

Kick returning: previously solicited pointers on return strategies. Looking at league-wide stats, am in week 8 and there has only been a single return for TD.

I rarely get more than 10 yards or so on a return. Are there any tips or pointers on having more success, and perhaps having a chance of breaking one or two for a TD?

Not interested in any sort of glitches like "do this to game the CPU and you'll get a TD 100% of the time." Would defeat the purpose and the realism. Just general strategies... also what are the ideal attributes for my returner? From my research, I'm gathering the "kick return" attribute has nothing to do with the returner's ability to return kicks, but rather how well he fields the kick/punt.

Because I play with custom teams, I apparently am forced to play as an online franchise even though I am playing against the CPU and no other people.

Last night, during the fourth quarter of my game, I got the message that the EA server connection was lost, and my stats/progress for the game would not be saved. I had to start the game over from scratch, which was exceptionally frustrating due to the fact there is no logical reason I should have to play in online mode in the first place.

Subsequently when replaying my game, I quit in the second quarter, then logged back onto franchise and got the notification that I had a game in progress, asking if I wanted to resume (which I did.) I figured at the very least, this would be a form of "save point" in case the server were to go down again... at least I wouldn't have to play the entire game over again.

So I did the same thing at the beginning of the third quarter. Quit game, but this time when I went back in I was not presented with the game in progress. It was just gone. So again I had to start over.

Any idea why even this part is inconsistent? Are there any tips/tricks anyone uses to alleviate problems like this? (M26/Xbox)

Ok, can someone help me break down what the player is looking for here?

When they say expected value per year, is that aside from the bonus?

The Salary and the Bonus values are per year, right? If so, this would add up to or exceed the 10.2M expected?

I do have the league option for the player motivations turned down, but am aware that can be an issue.

Generally, just hoping for any advice on how to go about reading this screen, and methodology to come up with a fair offer.

Eleven games to go in the season. Next five games are at home... followed by five in a row on the road.

Anything we can actually do on stuff like this? Back in the day, on the PC, I would look at the schedule as soon as it was generated, and if it was something screwy like this, would just go back to the prior .fra save and re-advance to the new season. As we don't even have saves with this version, seems there's a lack of options.

Draft Variance Tool

My first attempt at this, please let me know thoughts and ideas.

This is intended to simulate the uncertainty in the draft process... the possibility of your team's draft selection being the next Ryan Leaf (or the next Tom Brady.) Any changes are recommended to be implemented at the "draft recap" stage of the franchise.

League with all custom teams. Noticing my team rarely gets injuries... completed four games this season and the teams I'm playing against will have two or three key players out, but my list is clear. During the last game, also noted the vast majority of in-game injuries were to the other team. I had one injury to an offensive lineman where it said "he will not be able to return" but at the end of the week he was back to normal.

Striving for as much realism as possible. Am wary of slider settings, last season I tried adjusting that and it resulted in a game where players were getting hurt on literally every play. Do the individual players INJ/TGH possibly need to be adjusted?

Making this into a web-based resource.

The idea is to simulate the ambiguity or "hit or miss" possibilities that can happen in the real-life Draft. Highly scouted and ranked player can be a bust, some players just don't adapt to the NFL, physically or otherwise. Occasionally someone ranked and drafted modestly in the later rounds can end up being a superstar or "hidden gem."

The idea will be to generate an app response, then edit the players accordingly in the "draft recap." By doing this after the draft has occurred rather than before, these busts/gems can't be identified beforehand, even with 100% scouting.

I used pro-football-reference.com to download a decade of NFL drafts... each player drafted has a "weighted career approximate value" which generally indicates how successful they were. Examples, looking at the 1998 draft, Peyton Manning was rated 176, Charles Woodson 115, Andre Wadsworth 12, Ryan Leaf was a 1. Crunched all of this data, figured out what the normal median value was for each position in each draft round. Then figured out how often a player substantially deviates in either direction. Then used this to drive the number of players who will be edited.

For the highest level of realism, one would be editing over 100 player profiles which is exhaustive. In the current model, a total of 40 edits are done... although in the screenshot, only 20 players are actually being adjusted. The other 20 are "decoys" or "dummy edits"... going into a random player profile and a minor edit to something irrelevant, then saving. Reasoning for this is, player edits are recorded in the league transactions screen, and a human user could thus check the list to see if one of their players was affected.

Welcoming suggestions on other ideas to throw into this...

In this example, a random first-round running back and second-round TE will become \"busts\" while a Day 3 RB and WR will turn out to be \"hidden gems.\"

Some players end up not being physically cut out for football at the professional level, more likely to spend time on the injured list and likely have short careers.
