Here we are trying to administer final exams as required by our university, and the campus is filled with blaring music in the (very) nearby athletic fields meant to pump up the excitement of practices and games and stir students to their peak athletic performance. At the same time, the campus is buzzing with very loud mowers, trimmers, and blowers to get ready for commencement (what happened to no-mow May?). The buildings are not air conditioned so closing the windows is not an option. During regular term time the general rule has been to restrict the sports music to after 4 p.m. when classes are largely over; but during exam week that seems to have been discarded as an idea. Complaints have already been made through proper channels, this is just a crie de coeur to the internet: it's easy for campus leaders to sing the song that academics matter, but in so many ways it's clear that other things matter more.

I'm an idiot and bought a single General Admission ticket for the Sebring weekend coming up May 8-10, but I forgot that I had a prior commitment and so I can't go. The ticket wasn't that expensive -- like $84 including tax. I can transfer it to someone who is planning to be there. Send me a private message in you are interested.
