The nether shadow was made with my original methodology, not the one from InQuest that I shared in my last monster post. If I used that article's suggestions, this would be a 2 HD monster and do 1-6 damage. Which do you think is better?
These I found to be much easier than the monsters I posted earlier. The only things I am not sure on yet are the xp and gp values. Thoughts?
I have previously posted my first attempt at adapting a Magic The Gathering creature into a 1e AD&D monster a few days ago but was unsure about how to best translate the card's power and toughness. On the advice of a commenter, I looked up an article in issue 35 of InQuest Gamer Magazine which tackled the same topic and made the version on the right using the formula in that article. Which do you think is better? I feel like the best solution is going to be some combination rather than hewing strictly to a formula, which makes me irrationally annoyed.
I'm working on an idea of adapting creatures from Magic the Gathering to AD&D 1e, with Hypnotic Specter here being my first attempt. What does everyone think of it? I'm having a few difficulties with how faithful to remain. For example, translating 2 toughness as 2 HD seemed to make sense to me, but using the same logic for power/damage would have it deal 2-16 damage on a hit, which seems absurdly powerful for a 2 HD monster. I've tried scaling damage to instead be 1d4 per power, but I'm not sure if that's the right call. Another example is that I feel like I should probably add a clause that the creature can only be hit by silver or magic since most other incorporeal undead do, even though there is no corresponding mechanic on the card.
