First 130 pages of The Passanger. Am I missing anything?

I have a bad memory sometimes (concussions) and having someone tell me if I'm missing some stuff is generally really helpful for me, especially when it comes to literature. These are not in chronoligcal order.

  • Opens on sisters suicide.

  • Brother and sister in love.

  • Their father worked on the Manhattan project.

  • Western might have fucked a chicken.

  • Western used to race cars but hit his head in a crash, was in a coma.

  • Currently 1980, in 1960 their grandmother dies and he finds the gold his sister was told of, lots of money.

  • Salvage diver brother, is part of inspecting a plane crash, no jepp case, missing passanger, unexplainable crash, visited by FBI like guys, later his apartment is flipped, he also searches nearby islands and finds what he believes to be traces of the missing passanger. No crash in the newspapers.

  • His friend Oiler dies.

  • He takes residence in Lurch's old room, he had killed himself by filling the room with gas, taping the windows, the socks under the door. The woman Western get's the room from warns that everyone else who stayed in that room went the same way.

  • Western and his sister (who is still unnamed) are clearly wicked intelligent. They fell in love over mathematics. She is schizophrenic, she tries shock therapy to get rid of "them".

  • The sister only cares for Miss Vivian in her hallucinations nGrogan is unbathed. The Thalidomide Kid is either actually a seal or is just deformed. The Kid speaks really highbrow but can't really understand what he means, maybe he can, but she thinks its gibberish. The existence of god is important to them and seemingly to the novel as a whole.

Anything major that I'm missing here? Not only is my memory a problem but now Cormacs jumping around in time and his prose and the sometimes very long chapters make his work especially hard for me to follow. But I think I'm getting it.

I just came off of Blood Meridian, then Outer Dark, so Suttree seemed like it might offer a little reprieve from how oppressive those two were.

That first chapter is a doozy. I'm trying my best to follow what's going on there and the tense is strange. I can't tell if the dead twin is speaking in the first person or if Sut is? It's really strange. Is there a way that, without spoiling anything, someone can tell me what is really going on here?

I can tell that it takes place past the events of the work camp and the melon moonlighter, Cormac (in his usual style) has made it sort of difficult to figure out who is who and when stuff is happening (at least it's challenging for me).

I'm getting the main gist for sure but any little bits of guidance that will make this read a little smoother would be great.
