器用 vs "Dexterity"

I recently saw 器用 translated into English as "dexterity" but was confused by the nuance of its specific utilization. The usage, however, was applied to a pool of resources that could be variably allocated to physical, mental, and social attributes at will. I would have used "versatility" in this context but, looking at Japanese <-> English dictionary resources a literal translation of 器用 to "dexterity" seems spot-on.

Is this a case of language and word meanings not having a direct 1:1 correlation or was the original Japanese selection of 器用 less than ideal for its usage in this case?

Thank you for your time and consideration.
