I am starting my first engineering job soon making just under six figures and want a reality check on a car decision. I am starting a job in sw Ohio and due to the harsh winters and long road trips to the south, I feel a hybrid is a good decision and I want a fun to drive hybrid.

I currently own a 2023 Miata RF GT that is fully paid off and I have no debt. If I make a change, I would be trading it in, so I would be going from no car payment to having one. As much a as I love it, it can be impractical and more than i thought it would be. (Trunk space)

My plan is to wait about 6 months before doing anything so I can settle into the job and build some savings first. I also will save everything else and not making any other big purchases. Is the hybrid xlt awd a good choice? Any issues mechanically with fords?

I’m starting an engineering job at 23 soon making just under six figures, and I’m thinking about trading in my 2023 Miata RF GT for an EcoBoost Mustang in 6 months. The Miata is fully paid off and I don’t have any debt, so this would basically be my only car and only payment along with rent. I love the car but the Miata can be unpractical at times. Thinking of buying slightly used as well.

I’m trying to figure out what income level people feel is “comfortable” for owning one of these without feeling stretched. Since I’m just starting my career, I want to make sure I’m not jumping into something that’ll hurt me financially, while wanting to drive a fun car.

For those who own an EcoBoost, I’d be interested in hearing what your monthly costs look like all-in (payment, insurance, gas, maintenance) and whether you felt like it was an easy expense to carry.
