I doubt I finish another one by end of tomorrow, so here are my April reads! There were a few absolute bangers this month!
The Grip of It - Jac Jemc
Typical haunted house tale. Engaging opening and moved quickly, but it didn't stick the landing in my opinion.
Our Wives Under the Sea - Julia Armfield
Really enjoyed this one! I found myself switching back and forth between which character I found more interesting. The ending was what I wanted it to be.
Between Two Fires - Christopher Buehlman
Loved, loved, loved this book! Wanting to settle for a while to avoid recency bias but it's arguably in my all time Top 5. The characters were engaging, the plot was solid, the imagery was vibrant and the ending was superb.
There is No Antimemetics Division - QNTM
Loved this one as well! While the overall plot was fascinating, the story broke down into some very entertaining subplots (almost short stories) as well! Fast paced and hard to put down. I think I need to read it again to truly get the ending but I'm not upset about that.
Hyperspace: A Scientific Oddyssey Through the 10th Dimension - Michio Kaku
A bit more of an academic read than some others I have read by Kaku but this one came out first so maybe he hadn't gained his legs yet as an author? Still very interesting subject matter and he has an ability to make complex subject matter relatively understandable.
Killing It - Mike Bockoven
I loved FantasticLand and I love standup comedy so I was excited for the premise here of a comedy club slasher/survival story, but it didn't really impress me unfortunately. The book I was reading was littered with typos and the comedy bits throughout I genuinely didn't find that funny. The story was interesting enough but I had a hard time rooting for most of the characters.
All The Fiends of Hell - Adam Nevill
This one felt like the only slog of the month. It is one I have been listening to on audiobook and I just found myself not caring throughout a lot of it, hoping to get to the end. It felt very repetitive and meandering.
