It is with great disappointment that Spirit Airlines

has started winding down its global operations,

effective immediately. All flights have been cancelled, and

customer service is no longer available. While we are not able.

to help rebook your flight on another airline, we will

automatically process refunds for any

flights purchased through Spirit with a credit or debit card to the

original form of payment. We are proud of the impact of our

ultra-low-cost model on the industry for the last 33

years and had hoped to serve our Guests for many years to

come. For more information on the wind-down process,

please visit https://www.spiritrestructuring.com/.

O'Hare International Airport (ORD) began as a WWII-era manufacturing plant for Douglas C-54 Skymasters in 1942, known as Douglas Field and surrounded by a small farming community called Orchard Place. Following the war, Chicago selected the site for a new, massive airport in 1945, later renaming it in 1949 to honor WWII flying ace Edward "Butch" O'Hare. The airport officially opened to commercial traffic in 1955, quickly becoming a global aviation hub that pioneered jet bridge technology in the late 1950s.
