No happy ending?
Hey Guys I have a very specific itch that needs scratching.
I am super into slow-burn romance. Over the past months I tried to find what my favorite tropes are how much spice I like etc. And I read a lot.
I enjoyed Books like {The Wall of Winnipeg and Me}, {The Everlasting}, or {Shield of Sparrows}. With {Priest} and other very spicy novels, I learned that too much spice was more annoying to me than thrilling. As unfortunately I personally felt that it was oftentimes used as a "inexpensive" plot-device.
I just finished {Limits} and it left me disappointed. Because I don't like the "Oh I can fix them" trope.
So what AM I looking for?
I want something gritty and real. I want heart-ache and pain. I want longing and obstacles. I want an MMC and FMC that deserve each other, maybe they are complicated or straight-up assholes. But in some twisted way they belong together. I also think that by now I rather prefer a "sad" ending over a happy ending, as it sometimes felt forced to me.
Or what always comes to mind is the dynamic of the K-Drama "Doom at your service" minus like the last two episodes (I hated the ending)
I thought if there is something out there that scratches that itch ... you guys would know. I am sorry if there is already a similar thread I didn‘t find
PS.: I take English and German book recommendations :D
