Why do trees in this location keep dying? Should I plant something else?
This is the third western cedar in this location that has died over the last 10 months. The cedars planted next to this one are doing fine so I don't know why this one spot is a problem.
I thought I hadn't watered the first two enough. But the dying tree in this pic was planted in the fall, received lots of rain, and there is a drip line to ensure the trees are watered.
On the other side of the fence my neighbor has lilac, bamboo, laurels, and farther away is a tree of heaven and Douglas firs.
Why do trees die just in this spot? Should I plant a different type of tree/shrub instead? If so, what? My other neighbor has Portuguese laurels planted along the fence and they are doing well.
Location: Portland, Oregon (western cedars are native to this area).
