Who is depicted in this original GB Shepherd artwork?

Artist: G.B. Shepherd (UVA 1911, Paris, NYC Fifth Ave studio). Subject: Unknown "Young Man" c.1920-40 charcoal. Goodwill find w/ Mark Bucko provenance

Found this at Goodwill with a 2000 provenance letter. Need help IDing the subject only — artist is confirmed.

What I know:

• Artist: G. B. Shepherd / Sheppard

○ Born Petersburg, VA. UVA 1911 → Ecole des Beaux-Arts Paris

○ Fifth Avenue NYC portrait studio 1910s-1930s

○ Exhibited: Society of Independent Artists 1917, Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney show 1923

○ Mentioned American Art News 1913. In book Tryon Artists: 1892–1942

○ WWI infantry veteran

• Medium: Original charcoal/pencil on paper, c. 1920-1940

• Provenance: Estate of Mark Bucko (Winterthur Museum-trained curator) → Richmond Antique Show 2000

• Subject: Labeled only "Young Man" in letter. Not Lindbergh.

Look of subject: 20s-30s, slicked center-part hair, suit/tie, c. 1920s-30s style. Could be UVA alum, NYC client, Tryon NC polo/society, or Philadelphia family.

What I've tried: Emailing UVA archives + Tryon Arts. No luck yet.

  2. Signature "G. B. Shepherd"

  3. 2000 provenance letter

Any facial recognition hits or Shepherd experts here? Mark Bucko owned it, so it’s legit. Thanks!
