I see quite a lot founders obsessed with "building a personal brand" before they have their first ten clients. They post on X for months, get 3 likes, and wonder why they're broke.
Here is the hard truth, you don't need to be an influencer many business generated millions, billions even without any social media presence. My compnay reach the 50M$ revenue after 14 years.
The Secret: "The Dream 100" method
Instead of building an audience from scratch, borrow the ones that already exist.
- The Workflow: create a spreadsheet. On the left, list 100 people or organizations (podcasters, newsletter writers, community leaders) who already have the attention of your target customers
- The Goal: Find a way to get in front of their audience. A single connecton can be a "step function" for explosive growth that dwarfs years of minor optimizations.
- The Example: One reach-out to author Jake Knapp (who wrote Sprint) created an entire training business responsible for tens of millions of dollars
Most people fail outreach though because they appear "insulting", asking for a favour from a busy person without offering value. You have to find ways to be helpgul to "gatekeepers" before you ask for anything
