My child has been playing baseball for about 3 years now. 1 year travel (8U) and rec league since tee-ball. The past year - he’s had a teammate that has been nothing but volatile. As in - nearly every game there is an outburst. Crying and slamming bats when he strikes outs. Crying and throwing his helmet in forced out situations. Throwing his hat when he doesn’t make a play. And then can’t engage back in the game and will continue to make errors.
And I’m not exaggerating when I say it happens EVERY game. Both on rec league and the travel team.
And there are ZERO consequences on his behavior.
All the coaches and parents tip toe around his outbursts. Alll because when he is good - he’s a great little ball player. But it’s embarrassing for everyone there and also is an awful example to the other teammates.
And also - the team has just enough players and the daddy coaches don’t think they can find anyone to fill in.
BTW, He’s not a child of a coach.
At this point - we’ve told the coaches - if nothing is done we are leaving the travel program.
My son isn’t the best on the team - but leads in hits, second best Batting Average - and is well liked but teammates and works hard.
Anyone ever been in this situation? My husband and I, just don’t think having this kid on the team is healthy, and the only thing we can do at this point is just not return. And to add - this kid picks on other kids as well.
