Hi, fellow hippies. I posted a few months ago that I have surgery scheduled for May 5th but I'm thinking of postponing the surgery. The reason is that I had a cortisone injection in February and it must have taken awhile to kick in because I have hardly any pain, and I can't really justify going through the hassle of such a major surgery and recuperation unless I really need to and unless pain is really negatively impacting my life. I'm still swimming and walking every day. Maybe moving around more is making things better. My job was very sedentary sitting and typing at a desk all day long which made my arthritis worse. But since I retired a few weeks ago, (age 66), I can say that I'm moving around better. I believe it when my doctor says "motion is lotion for the joints"! Also the stress of having this surgery has caused me to have a mild outbreak of shingles on my low backside where I got the cortisone injection. The blisters are scabbing over now but when I get stressed sometimes I break out with shingles.... just a mild case of it and it doesn't hurt, it just itches. So I would like your comments on what made you decide to get a hip replacement, what degree of pain were you in, how long did you wait after experiencing pain in hips, etc. I have read that it takes up to a year to fully heal. Please give me your input and thank you in advance! 🙏
