As a personal project I am trying to improve the environment of my game by inspiring myself in Silent Hill, I try to find that it can work and I go for the subtle but I still feel that it is missing or what I have done is too exaggerated as the excess of darkness.

If someone could give me advice to create an uncomfortable atmosphere that keeps you alert, I would be very grateful.
