▲ 5 r/ponds

I’m looking for advice about my dream pond. I want to maximize size in my yard (I have a flat section and a sloped section further away and will be building it exclusively on the flat section). It will be a wildlife pond, semi formal style. Probably something like 400sq feet area, max 5 feet deep. I don’t intend to keep fish. If they come because they get pooped out of a birds butt that’s fine but I’m not adding anything other than plants and rocks.

From your experience what are some pond features that are super duper worthwhile building into my pond plan, and other features which later became such nuisance you eliminated them or wished you hadn’t put that feature into your pond?

I’m focusing mostly on visuals. What will give me the most visual worthwhile pond experience. I’m in Southern California, it doesn’t freeze in winter.
