I’ve been thinking about how to fairly measure how much knowledge or authority a player has on a specific League of Legends champion.
I don’t mean just who has the highest elo, but something more specific:
>
For example, imagine several profiles talking about Garen:
- A Diamond player with only a few Garen games.
- A Gold player with hundreds of Garen games and high mastery.
- An Emerald player with a decent number of games this season and a good winrate on Garen.
I’m thinking about a Champion Authority Score based on:
- Current elo
- Number of games with that champion this season
- Winrate with that champion this season
- Mastery points with that champion
My initial formula would be:
- 35% mastery
- 30% games with the champion this season
- 20% current elo
- 15% winrate with the champion
But I’m not sure.
My concerns:
- Mastery shows experience, but not necessarily skill.
- Winrate can be misleading with a small sample size.
- Elo matters, but a high-elo player with 10 games shouldn’t automatically outweigh a main with hundreds of games.
- Recent activity might matter more than old experience.
Questions:
- If you had to calculate a score for champion-specific knowledge/authority, what formula would you use?
- How much weight would you give to elo, mastery, games played this season, and winrate with that champion?
- For mastery points, what would you consider the minimum threshold to start giving meaningful score, and around what amount of mastery would you consider it “maxed out” or close to maximum value?
