I want to start a discussion surrounding the resident telepath in the KD books, who works as a receptionist in the order of merciful aid. Maxine has always been a cool side character to me as I love psychic characters in general (Jean grey, Psylocke, etc.).

We see Maxine pick up on thoughts through the phone and even communicate with Kate despite being halfway across the city (unsure of how canon this is as the only way we know this is when Maxine says something like "sorry" to Kate regarding a revelation of sorts that's currently slipping my mind).

There's also the matter of what happens during the later books where Maxine couldn't work due to residual mental "echoes" where the emotions of the people dying and suffering that happened in the Order's basement was too much for her to work there.

We see what professor Xavier from the X-men and Jean grey can do with their telepathy. And Kate has described Maxine as a powerful telepath. What do you think made Maxine decide to be a receptionist rather than be on the field? We haven't seen her do any combat feats, like shutting someone down or lobotomizing them like *Nevada* can do from Hidden Legacies.

Just a thought in a sea of Maggie the Undying discussions :)
