Hi everyone. I’m looking for some practical advice on how to start a career in IT, specifically in cybersecurity. I know that the entry-level job market is very tough right now, and competition is fierce. Maybe you could share how you got started in this field?

I’ve taken courses in web development (HTML, CSS, JS) and am comfortable working in a Linux terminal. I felt like I was stuck in pure development, since I prefer analyzing information rather than just building interfaces. That’s exactly why I think the role of a SOC analyst is a perfect fit for my mindset.

Right now I’m studying on TryHackMe, but I’m afraid that’s not enough to land a job...

I just wanted to know this:

  • Is it worth switching from web development to SOC?
  • Besides TryHackMe, what should I focus on to increase my chances of getting hired?
  • In which areas of IT is the barrier to entry currently the lowest for someone who enjoys analysis?
  • I really want to learn, but I want to make sure I’m not just going in circles. I’d appreciate any advice.
