Rate this hospitalist offer. J-1 waiver
Would appreciate honest feedback on whether this is a solid offer, fair, or something to negotiate harder.
- J-1 waiver position in an underserved area in NC (1 hour drive from a major cit)
- 50-bed community hospital and 6-bed ICU.
- University tertiary center about 1 hour away for transfers
- Limited subspecialty support onsite
- ICU patients are reportedly generally lower acuity, with sicker patients transferred out
- Daily census around 14 to 16 patients. No intensivist coverage. You are expected to manage vents
Schedule / coverage:
- 7 on / 7 off
- Solo daytime physician coverage
- No nocturnist. APPs/midlevels handle overnight admissions and cross-cover
- Home call overnight while on service they say you rarely get called, about once every 2 weeks. Usually phone calls only, not expected to physically come in most of the time
- Paid $300 per night of call. Adds up to approximately $50K/year extra
Compensation:
- Base salary: $350K
- No RVU bonus structure
- Overnight call pay: approximately +$50K/year
- Sign-on bonus: $60K
- Relocation: $7,500
