I need advice regarding my roomate.
I’m renting a room while I attend college and I’m friendly, but I usually keep to myself because I worry that if I socialize too much people will expect me to always hang out or do things together. The first night I moved in, my two roommates asked me to smoke with them and I said yes because I wanted to be friendly, and I smoke anyways. The next day I woke up with a cold sore. Neither of them seemed to have one visibly, so maybe one of them was just shedding the virus.
Now one of them recently started working from home and is really chatty. Whenever he sees me in the kitchen he asks if I want to smoke, but going forward I decided to say no because I’m in dental school and can’t risk getting cold sores while I need to be in clinic. The awkward part is that sometimes I’ll still go sit outside later and smoke from my own pen, and then he’ll come outside and smoke his joint too. So it feels awkward because I told him no, but then I’m still smoking. I also worry they might ask to try my pen.
I don’t want to be rude because I don’t really care if one or both of them has herpes, but I would prefer not to have another outbreak, I also have no proof that’s how I got it since nothing was visible at the time, so I don’t want to straight up tell them that’s why. It just makes the whole situation feel awkward.
