I just picked up a lot of documents and photos that belonged to a Navy LT who flew with VA-196 ("Main Battery") in the early 70s.

It’s a pretty cool mix of stuff from when they were stationed at NAS Whidbey Island and then deployed on the USS Enterprise. There's an original cockpit photo (Sept 1970), squadron newsletters from the actual deployment, and even his original boarding pass for a "Dependents' Cruise" on the Big E right before they left. And other paper ephemera.

I'm mostly a reseller/collector, but I love the history here. Does anyone know much about VA-196 during this specific era? I know they were flying the A-6 Intruder, and stationed on the USS Enterprise. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

I purchased this storage unit in the heart of Hollywood on Sunset Strip.

The unit was filled with boxes of Hollywood Ephemera, gossip magazines and tabloids from the 1950's and on. There were boxes and boxes of magazines like Screenland, Movieland, Silver Screen, etc. All the stars were there, Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, Tab Hunter, Gregory Peck, James Dean. I felt like I hit the Jackpot! For the next few months I have been cataloging, organizing and putting magazines in boards and bags.

I've been in the resell/collectibles business for over 30 years. This Hollywood Storage unit I won at an auction was an absolute score of my lifetime. It was the day after Christmas this past year and I won the auction with a high bid of $220. I find that storage auctions go for cheaper during holidays, so if your willing to work you can get good deals on a lot of stuff.

The unit was in the heart of Hollywood on Sunset Strip. When I arrived at the storage facility there was a couple in a car waiting at the gate. As I pulled up they approached me and asked if I had been bidding on this unit and proceeded to show me a picture. Big mistake on my part "I told them yes." They immedietly started trying to negotiate with me offering me cash and trades in exchange for everything in the unit. They became somewhat insistent and even agressive over it. I told them no.

I calculated out the resell value of around $20,000 and that is being extremely conservative.

Has anyone else had people show up at their won storage units?

I'd like to try this post again and tell this story. It was just to good to pass up. Hopefully there will be a little less hate this time. I've sold 78 so far and am at over $4,000. The hard part is just trying to get through and post all of these! Also, I get lost reading the articles and appreciating the pictures. I get distracted to easily.

These would make excellent Mother's Day Gifts! So if your interested in helping me clear out some inventory they are posted to my ebay store (link below).
