As the title suggests, I am curious what people do for clients who primarily need help managing executive dysfunction/ADHD or Autism? I know I cannot diagnose them, and even with confirmation via records, insurance doesn’t love covering therapy for this alone even though they can benefit from therapy. A lot of times they meet criteria for depression or anxiety, or other diagnoses, but sometimes they don’t. I usually do an adjustment disorder in this situation, but curious what others do/how they handle this when a client is wanting therapy but doesn’t meet criteria for any other diagnosis?
Edit to add: my current practice I’ve been at for years has always made the impression that ADHD alone is not sufficient diagnosis for insurance to cover therapy. I am in MN, am an LICSW, and don’t have the qualifications or training to assess + diagnose ADHD (and I was under the impression that I can’t, at least not in MN with a LICSW license), and only list is as a secondary diagnosis when/if I get outside assessment records to substantiate it.
