My child was diagnosed with FPIES to milk at 8mo in the UK. Other, Ig based allergies were eliminated. She also has mild eczema that has been improving drastically in the past months- now she is 21 months old. After the initial vomiting incidents, we have managed to avoid milk products entirely until now. We have moved to Denmark and the medical process here for this condition is quite different. In the UK, we were supposed to put her on the milk ladder around this age. In here, we have to do a hospital oral challenge test where she drinks milk throughout one day while being monitored. They also want to repeat the blood test to confirm no Ig mediated allergy has developed. I am hesitant about this process because 1) blood test seems completely unnecessary to me 2) drinking milk for a day out of nowhere is very harsh and I’m afraid we will get a positive result and drag this process out, possibly causing lifelong condition.

Today in the nursery she ate a small piece of cheddar cheese by accident. This happened two hours ago so I am still waiting to see if there will be any reaction. But I’m wondering, if she is not going to react, could I potentially use this occasion to get started with the milk ladder at home? If yes, should I jump to the step of cheese as that’s what she had and tolerated (hopefully) now? Or should I start from the beginning regardless?

I have seen a few different ladders, I am also curious which one have people used successfully. Thank you for sharing any experiences!
