Hi everyone,
I had a really strange experience today at Napoli Garibaldi station in Naples and wanted to check if anyone has seen something similar.
My husband and I were on the escalator when a man approached us saying he was from Karachi and needed help finding where his Uber would arrive. He said he was in Naples for a conference, dressed in blazer and a cheap bag (which was already strange), and just asking for directions.
At the same time, there was another man nearby who was already shouting loudly at Karachi guy. He followed him up to the escalator, still shouting, and suddenly spat on the Karachi guy.
What felt really off was that the guy who got spat on didn’t react at all. No anger, no surprise - he just continued talking to us normally about the Uber pickup like nothing happened.
When my husband asked him, why did the guy spat on you? He replied because he was smoking in public. And then again, he asked for the Uber direction.
The whole situation felt very strange and a bit unsettling, especially because it all happened in a crowded station.
Nothing was stolen and nothing else happened, but in hindsight it felt like it could have been some kind of distraction or setup.
I came to Naples really excited to explore the culture, food, and the city, but this experience honestly shook me a bit. It made me feel uncomfortable and slightly scared, which I wasn’t expecting.
Has anyone experienced something like this in Naples or elsewhere in Italy? Is this a known scam tactic or just a random incident?
Would really appreciate your thoughts.
Thanks!
