Has anyone combined karate and tai chi?

I'm a black belt of Shorin Ryu Shidokan, been doing it since I was a kid and it's been a great martial art for me. A car accident last year blew out half the discs in my spine so I plan to take up tai chi as a low impact martial art.

Has anyone here done both karate and tai chi? How do the body mechanics compare and did you find that they blended well with each other?

Oh and just to head off the guys who watch too much UFC yes, I understand that practicing a low contact low impact martial art won't win me any titles in a full contact cage fight and that doesn't bother me. If you don't understand or appreciate kata/forms please don't bother trying to argue about it because you'll be ignored.
