Going to Hawaii for a school trip and I have a question.
This question is mostly for those living in Hawaii.
Hawaii is such a beautiful place and I can’t wait to see its wonders. However, I have learned that (understandably), many locals do not want any more tourists due to the amount that treat the land and people horribly. I even recently saw a video of a tourist throwing a rock at a seal while visiting Hawaii, and I was revolted by his actions.
The discussion of whether people should be able/ should have ever been able to visit Hawaii has been divided. From what I can see, half say to not go and the other half say that it’s ok.
I would never ever dream of disrespecting Hawaii and its vast culture, but I’m afraid of contributing to harmful tourism culture.
So, as long as I treat Hawaii with respect, will I be ok?
