Task MVPs (Series 20)

I don't know who usually does this post every year but I thought I'd give my take.

  1. Rajan. Successfully identified the erhu and iirc had a separate good negotiation. HM to Priyesh for his negotiation on the said erhu, which was one of the few good negotiations on this hard task and I'll give a little one to Tanmay (Controversial) for a solid negotiation on the pineapple paper even if it was the wrong item (At least he tried). Shout out on the losing team to Karishma for her stellar negotiation on the glocal mahjong set, going from 1430 to 700 Hong Kong Dollars.
  2. The whole sub team of Roxanne, Karishma, Carrington and Vanessa carried this task due to the design of the character but I'll give this one to Roxanne. The other three will be HMs. Shout out on the losing team to Lawrence for his strong sales and Conor for doing well in the pitch and could've had a good deal had Marcus not intervened.

3. Rajan. His negotiation with the corporate client was far superior to the other team and imo the reason the team won as the other team were better in market sales. HM to Dan as while not the best leader, he still performed well on the task and had to deal with certain team members trying to make him take all responsibility, Conor, Harry and Rothna will also get HMs for doing well in the market stall. Shout out on the losing team to Lawrence and Kieran who were amazing on the market sales and Karishma who could've had a good negotiation with the corporate client had Tanmay and Megan not intervened.

  1. Karishma. Not much to say, Stellar PM Performance, dominant leadership and great advert. HM to Kieran for performing well in the ad and Lawrence for his good pitch. Shout out on the losing team to Dan for having a good concept idea that Lord Sugar and the aides defended and Conor for managing the social media video that was far better than the other team.

  2. Rothna. Smashed the task as PM, great leadership and managed the market stall well. HM to Rajan for his negotiation which was much better than the other team, Kieran and Conor did well selling to the public iirc and Megan, Carrington and Andrea did reasonably well selling to the corporate client. Shout out on the losing team to Pascha for being by far the least probelmatic on the team and Lawrence for good sales despite fumbling his negotiation with the clients on the first day.

  3. Controversial but I will go with Priyesh. He was far from perfect but was a much better PM than Megan, also he did well keeping costs down with his food negotiation by reducing the number of portions and his apology to the guests prevented an even bigger refund. HM to Conor (who probably would be MVP for most people) for the entertainment in the cave (Although it was a bit dragged out), Dan (Controversial pick) for chipping in with the food negotiation with Priyesh, Pascha and Lawrence for a decent negotiaiton with the clients and Karishma for managing the kitchen reasonably well despite Priyesh and Levi's F - ups. Massive Shout out to Rothna from the losing team for at least providing one course that was edible and even tasty (A chocolate fondant is a pretty hard dish to make).

  4. Karishma. The win was 100% down to her game which was amazing. Shout out on the losing team to Rothna for managing the subteam well despite Rajan constantly being negative and rude to her and I'll give Levi one as well as he had ideas and constantly offered input but was constantly shut down by Lawrence.

  5. Priyesh. His negotiation on the Sup was what led the team to victory and he also negotiated well on the Garlic. HM to Rothna for being more of a PM than Levi and negotiated well, Dan for his negotiation and even Levi made purchases until the last minute and still made the boat on time (He was still the weakest on this task). Shout out on the losing team for Karishma who negotiated brilliantly with the Doughnuts, getting a great discount, Kieran who was a much better leader than in Hong Kong and having a clear strategy from the beginning, Lawrence for helping with the wine negotiaiton, redeeming himself after his atrocious PM performance the previous week and Conor for his good negotiations.

  6. Karishma and Lawrence carried this task. They smashed it with the ping pong set and negotiated the better high end product (even though they didn't sell any). I'll give the sole MVP title to Karishma though as she did well selling the product that did not feature in the episode. HM to Pascha who sold well with the teeth spraying product and was a passable PM despite Karishma being better suited and Priyesh did fine in the gallery as well. Shout out on the losing team to Dan who sold the bracelet really well, conducted himself in a good manner and was only bought back by Conor because Levi had already been fired. Also Rothna deserves a shout out for selling the cake mixer extremely well (which was unfairly cut out).

  7. Karishma. Created a product that was way better than the cat tree and secured 1500 orders. HM to Lawrence for being instrumental in the design of the dog bed and securing 1100 orders which arguably got the team the win. Massive shout out on the losing team to Dan who was by far the best across both teams, his branding was far superior to 'Chique le Chien', unanimously liked by the focus group and secured 2000 orders for his team which was the most across both team and 97% of his teams total sales.

Final (Excluding FInalists) Kieran for his blatant attempt to sabotage Pascha and ensure that Karishma wins.

Only Joking! I'll give this one to Carrington for directing a decent ad that promoted Karishma's business. The only problem was that it was a bit pornographic (which she quickly edited out). Shout out on Pascha's team to Megan for directing the ad well and ignoring Kierans bonkers and ridiculous suggestions.

EDIT: Despite being fired that week, I'll give Harry an HM on Task 8 as his Sup Negotiation was still a decent one and I think had he been on the same team as Pascha or Levi he would have stayed.

Is it just me or does it seem like being age 19-22 is a bit of a curse on The Apprentice, be it because of talent, length in the process or public perception of the candidates. There are a few exceptions (One in particular) but generally, it seems that if you're aged between 19 and 22, you will likely not fair well on the show, have at least one really bad thing going for you or not be well liked by the viewers.

Here are all of the candidates that fell into this category at the time of their seasons:

- Lindi (S4) who was 22

- Rocky (S5) who was 21

- Ben (S5) who was 22

- Raleigh and Laura (S6) who were 22

- Stuart (S6) who was 21

- Susan (S7) who was 21

- Maria (S8) who was 20

- Alex and Sophie (S9) who were 22

- Solomon (S10) who was 22

- Elle (S11) who was 21

- Alex (S14) who was 21

- Kurran, Sabrina and Camilla (S14) who were 22

- Ryan-Mark and Lottie (S15) who were 19

- Souleyman and Dean (S15) who were 20

- Noor (S18) who was 22

- Jordan (S19) who was 21

- Pascha (S20) who was 21

- Lindi, Ryan-Mark, Lottie and Noor are considered to be some of the most unlikeable and generally disliked contestants to go on the show. Lindi due to frequently targetting the likes of Shazia and Lucinda alongside Jenny and Jennifer; Ryan-Mark due to controversy as well as him and Lottie mocking Jemelin's exit speech; Lottie for her snobby personality and frequently clashing with people on the show, being one of if not the worst candidate to make the Final 5 and her racist comment towards Lubna on WhatsApp; and finally Noor for her not being very good on tasks despite making Week 8, her attitude towards Tre in her final task, 'It's Very Good' and not turning up on You're Fired due to percieved bitterness on her edit and in support of Asif who was edited out of the show.

- Rocky, Raleigh, Maria, Sophie, Alex (S14) and Souleyman were all early boots. Rocky failed miserably as a PM in Week 2 and bought James and Howard back instead of Maj and/or Noorul (although at least he was invited back for the final); Raleigh, Sophie and Alex are definitely some of the most forgettable contestants to go on the show (although I'll cut Raleigh slack as he had to leave due to an accident involving his brother and provided us with 'It was Shameful' which was iconic); Maria and Souleyman were fired in Weeks 2 and 3 respectively after a pretty bad episode (the former for falling asleep in the car and being argumentative and the latter for constantly complaining and adding no valuable contribution).

- Elle and Kurran had similar runs in Seasons 11 and 14 respectively. Both were considered weak candidates who could've gone earlier than they actually did (Elle for the boat fiasco in Week 3 and Kurran had he not thrown Rick under the bus in Week 5), however they both made it to Week 6 where Lord Sugar made them Project Manager, they both flopped and were fired. Also, the latter went through half of his time on the show with a broken arm.

- Laura, Dean and Camilla were reasonably likeable candidates but were believed to have made it too far in the process. Laura lasted until Week 9 but easily could have gone in Week 2 due to a poor PM performance as well as Week 6 had Alex bought her back into the boardroom and subsequently outlasted arguably stronger candidates such as Alex, Sandeesh and Christopher; Dean lasted until Week 10 despite being in the firing line 3 times prior, many (including Lord Sugar) believed that he made it that far due to luck as he was on the winning team 6 times and was frequently teamed with Carina, Scarlet and Lewis; Camilla, while not a bad candidate is definitely one of the weaker 2nd place finishers alongside Phil, Rochelle and Pascha and I have a feeling many viewers were shocked that she made the Top 2 over candidates such as Kayode, Jackie, Jasmine and Daniel.

- Jordan and Pascha are fairly polarising candidates. Some viewers have praised Jordan for getting the Final 5 at such a young age, getting Lord Sugars contact details as well as his strong negotiating and pitching skills. However, other viewers have criticised his constantly negative demeanour (particularly in Week 4), somewhat lacklustre leadership in Weeks 7 and 10 and being one of the weaker 3rd place finishers, alongside his bizarre edit throughout the show. As for Pascha, people have praised her for being the youngest finalist and strong pitch in the finale but she has been criticised for making the Final 5 over the likes of Conor, Kieran and Rothna and making the Final 2 over Dan who was deemed way more consistent than her, also she apparently had issues with a few of the candidates off camera (Particularly Kieran and Rothna).

Stuart and Solomon seem to have been less impacted by this apparent curse as both were fan favourites, consistent candidates and made the FInal 5. However, the interviewers ripped them both to pieces (the former due to lying throughout the process and the latter due to presenting an 8 page Business plan with quite a lot of pictures). Consequently, both were more or less immediately fired in their respective Week 11 boardrooms.

Alex (S9) was probably the least impacted as he was also a fan favourite and a consistent candidate who many believed should've made the Final 5. However, one negative that he has going for him was the way he spoke to and treated Jason (a bigger fan favourite) in the first 2 tasks as he was quite aggressive (although to be fair, Jason wasn't the best leader in Week 1 and lost the team money in Week 2).

The way I see it: Ben, Sabrina and especially Susan avoided this 'curse' as they were decent candidates, didn't outstay their welcome (In my opinion) and are reasonably liked.

Let me know what you guys think.
