In my humble opinion DVNE (pronounced Dune) are among the best active bands in our little corner of the genre globe. If you've never had the pleasure of listening to them, their take on progressive post-metal is immense. They effortlessly blend cosmic atmosphere with colossal riffs in a way only a few bands can. If you like The Ocean, Psychonaut, Cult Of Luna or any other such bands then DVNE are a must listen.

What impresses me the most about these guys is just how dynamic they are. I mean, they have 3 band members delivering harsh and clean vocals alike! I usually don't like terms like 'overrated' and 'underrated' but man, Victor Vicart is a perfect example of that latter category. I've never heard such aggression and beauty come from the same man. Their drummer Dudley Tait is also a force to be reckoned with. His playing is tasteful and precise and always where it needs to be in relation to the other instruments. It's no small feat for a drummer to remind me of Danny Carey.

Their 3 albums have each been a masterclass of the genre. They especially found their sound on Etemen Ænka which remains one of my favourite albums of all time, let alone in recent memory. Towers, Court of the Matriarch, Omega Severer, Mleccha, Satuya... It's absurd how one album can have so many monumental songs. They followed it up with Voidkind which, impossibly, I regard as an even stronger offering from the band. Eleonora is pure sonic bliss for your ears.

As should be expected, they are perfect live. They belong to the rare pantheon of bands that sound almost identical on stage as they do on record. I've managed to catch them a few times and each has been an experience that has left me with a sore neck and an immediate desire to see them again. They're just that good.
