New Beginings, Meet Rei Amateru
A new DLC, means a new clean unmodded playthrough.
BACKSTORY
Rei Amateru is a space ronin raised in a small Japanese settlement within the Freestar Collective. There she learned the way of the blade from her father.
She learned how impersonal a firearm was, and how the only way to truly respect taking a life was to be close enough to see the white of their eyes. She was taught that melee combat is a form of accountability. Every fight is personal. Every decision is deliberate.
But tragedy struck. The Crimson Fleet came and destroyed her settlement. Rei was still a young lady.
After that, she wandered for years, aimlessly and alone, moving from job to job across the Settled Systems. Now she is starting a new job as a miner. It probably won’t last any longer than the others.
But maybe soon, purpose will find her.
VECTERA
On Vectera, everything changes.
Finding the artifact. Music. Bright lights.
Then the Crimson Fleet attacks.
As Rei helps her fellow miners defend against the pirates, she feels a rush. With lightning speed she remembers everything her father taught her as she hacks through the pirates with a rescue axe.
When it is over, the pirates lie still on the ground of the desolate moon.
Rei stands drenched in blood.
And not only blood.
She enjoyed what she had done. She enjoyed the moment their flesh was pierced by her axe.
That realization terrifies her.
She was taught the way of the blade was meant to give respect for life—not a longing to take it.
THE HUNT ON KREET
Before it is safe to leave the system, Rei must deal with the local warlord Brogan on Kreet.
Landing at an old, derelict United Colonies research facility, she slips in and out of the shadows, killing the pirates one by one.
Each death is more violent than the last.
Finally she reaches the end.
Only Brogan remains.
Brogan is afraid. He tries to negotiate.
Rei answers with a swift rush.
Brogan attempts to dodge, but Rei’s axe slams into his jetpack. The explosion throws Rei ten meters away in the low gravity.
When she rises, Brogan lies on the ground—his back ripped open by the blast.
CONSTELLATION
Rei eventually lands in New Atlantis. She walks up to the massive metal doors of Constellation.
The doors open.
She walks inside.
After a cautious and somewhat suspicious welcome, she places the artifact on the pedestal.
Suddenly power surges through her veins as the three artifacts rise and begin spinning in the air.
Something has chosen her.
And Rei Amateru isn’t sure if that is a blessing…
or the beginning of something far more dangerous.
