Foundation Help - Cystic Acne Breakout After Makeup
I need some serious advice on what direction I can take because I'm in my 30s and still can't get it right.
Backstory-
I'm not a huge makeup wearer, but this is somewhat due to me being prone to breakouts and having sensitive skin, so I've somewhat given up. It seems like if I go a couple of weeks without wearing foundation or skin tint, my acne seems to clear up, but the moment I want to pretty myself up, my skin pays for it. Most often, I break out into large cystic acne around my T-zone.
I've wondered all kinds of things: Is it genetic predisposition? Is it my birth control? Is it my skin type? Or might I be allergic to certiain ingredients?
For the past few years, I've really tried to up my skincare game. When I wear makeup, I double cleanse using an oil-based makeup remover and gentle cleansing cream. I follow up with a hydrating toner and redness/soothing serum. I've also started using a water-based primer, but haven't noticed too much difference.
I usually use cushion puff sponges or my hands to apply makeup and make sure to clean my sponge with soap and water after each use, squeeze out the excess water, and hang dry.
I'm looking for any makeup recommendations or skincare ideas. I'm slightly embarrassed to be in my 30s with continuous breakouts, though I know it's nothing to be ashamed of and a common issue. I just would like to minimize and control it better.
I'm not a fan of matte or full-coverage finishes. I like natural/dewy/satin/semi-matte, and I'm not too picky. I'm also not picky on the type of foundation (liquid/cc/bb/cushion/stick/compact powder/etc). I do get some dry patches on my chin and nose areas and would like to avoid makeup that enhances dryness. I also have some redness and sensitivity. I'm fine with any recommendations that are drug store up through name brand or shipping from overseas (such as olive young) but I would like to keep each product recommendation <$60 or so.
Thanks for the help! I'm hopeful I can find something that works for me!
