Hi! Im a coxswain that has first race tomorrow and I got like 2days of race practice(i know its crazy. My school was not kind to jv). Its a extremely short race(800m) and heres the thing: the rowers want me to be talking all the time. They told me that they dont like the silence and they want me to be saying something constantly! As a new coxswain and as a person who does not talk all the time, this is quite hard for me. Also its a 4s boat so its hard to really direct them on their postures as im looking the other way. I know 5-6 phrases they like and all but I would have to be talking for at least 3minute straight and i really dont know what I should do…

To some experienced coxswains this whole post might look like nonsense and all but im just really lost right now.

I watched a lot of cox recordings, but the thing is im not really experienced enough, and niether is my team experienced enough to put in those little pieces in the middle. I was told to approximately put in 3 power 10s in the piece, one at start, second in the middle(or whenever i think is right) and one at the end(250 mark) into a sprint. But please let me know what I should do because im really quite lost..!

Hi this is my first ever time writing on reddit but Wednesday is my first race. This sounds very bad but I have no idea what im doing..! It’s a 850m race(short) and since we had more than one coxswain in our boat we did practice on rotation so i didnt get a lot of practice experience either. With the help of internet and some backseat coxing from our rowers(they were coxswains) I was told to constantly speak to them. I saw some cox recordings and picked up on some things to day but im not completely sure what to actually say or when to call a power 10 or that kind of stuff. Please help me! Its a 4s boat
