Shower door exploded in Airbnb. Dealing with insurance and need advice
The shower door fell and exploded while my boyfriend was in the shower at an Airbnb. He was completely covered in glass and bleeding and I reported a safety issue with Airbnb support right away because I didn’t know what to do. All they did was make me fill out an insurance form and one month later I’m still dealing with third party insurance. Thankfully, my boyfriend was not severely injured.
I dug into this more and found other posts about how it’s usually due to the door not being properly installed. The Airbnb was old and did not look properly maintained. I only checked the hosts other listings after because the Airbnb I booked was a new listing with only 7 reviews. Then I saw multiple people complaining about maintenance issues from 2018 until now there are still issues. It’s a company that’s buying up old properties in Barcelona with 44 listings on Airbnb and using the cheapest materials and not doing proper maintenance.
I left a negative, factual review about how the Airbnb was old and what happened with the shower. Then Airbnb deleted it. I still have an open investigation for a host liability claim.
Is this legal? Who is liable in this case?
