Picked up a pair of KEF LS50s for 500 CAD and noticed some small dents on the aluminum mid/bass cones (not the tweeter).

I’ve attached photos. They’re shallow and there’s no obvious creasing or damage to the surround or tweeter.

They sound normal to me, no distortion, no buzzing, imaging seems fine, but it’s bothering me visually and I’m wondering if there’s any actual acoustic impact long-term.

Is this purely cosmetic or something worth worrying about?

Had a few insightful discussions on the KEF subreddit there letting me know should be no issue. That's a relief. Let me know if any of you differ in opinion! Would love to hear everyone's thoughts.

Also what do you all think on the price for these LS50s? Think I got a good bargain or did I make a mistake picking these up?

Thanks everyone!

Hey everyone,

I’m looking at using a SOLUPEAK P2 amp/speaker switcher (it’s around $20) to switch between two amps going into one pair of speakers:

  • Audiolab 6000A Play
  • Willsenton R8 (tube amp)
  • KEF LS50

I know this switcher doesn’t have any protection or impedance matching, and I’ve read that tube amps shouldn’t be powered on without a load.

My plan is:

  • power off both amps (especially the tube amp)
  • flip the switch
  • then power on whichever amp I want to use

I would never switch while anything is powered on.

Is this actually safe long-term for the tube amp, or is there still some risk during switching (like a brief no-load condition even when powered off)?

Also curious if anyone has noticed any sound quality differences with these. I know it’s just a passive switch so in theory it shouldn’t affect the signal, but wondering if anyone’s experienced any degradation in practice.

Thanks
