Hey all - I won a day-before Angels Landing lottery for tomorrow with start time after 12. I was hoping for before 9, but feel lucky to have gotten one at all. What I’m looking for help is the best time to go for good lighting/less crowds. Also, what is the latest time you are allowed to be on Angels Landing? Thanks!

Hey all - I'm planning to be in Zion NP next week from Monday - Thursday and really want to be able to do Angel's Landing during my time there (preferably before 9am). I was wondering if there were any tricks to increase my lottery chances, specifically if it mattered what time I submit the applications (i.e. 12:01 am vs 10:00 am). Similarly, I was wondering if you can submit a permit application for all three time slots. Thanks!
Hi all - Planning a solo trip to Zion & BC next week and have not included the Narrows in my plans yet. I am wondering if it truly is a can't miss experience - and if so - what the best protocol would be for hiking it in the first week of May. For context, I am a 6'5 22 year old in good shape. Would I need the dry bib, hiking stick, etc? Also, I'd want to avoid the crowds, what's the best way to do that?

Hey guys! Going to be in Zion next week and I am hoping to secure an Angel's Landing permit one of the days (before 9am). I'm wondering if it's a crazy idea to try and park at ~5am and walk the road up to the Grotto Trailhead to beat the crowds and hike Angel's Landing during first light. I understand it'd take ~1.25 hours to get to the trailhead. I've seen people talk about renting bikes, but I'm concerned it could get pricey if I have to rent it the night before as well. What do you guys think? Open to all suggestions!
Hey guys! I'm going to Zion NP for the first time ever (and first solo trip to an NP) next week and was looking for suggestions on trails/experiences etc. I love hiking, and am physically fit, so I'm very open to taking the harder "route less traveled" to avoid some of the crowds. Also a huge fan of sunrise/sunset hikes. Will be staying in Hurricane. Additionally, I'll be putting my name in the lottery for Angel's Landing ~5 times in a row if necessary, so if anyone has advice (day, time slot, time entering lottery) etc that will maximize my odds, that would be greatly appreciated!
Hey — planning a trip to Olympic NP in the 2nd–3rd week of May and trying to get a realistic sense of what Hurricane Ridge will be like.
I know it varies a lot year to year, but had a few specific questions:
- How much snow is usually still around up there in mid-May?
- Are trails like Hurricane Hill still pretty covered?
- Would you recommend bringing microspikes, or is that overkill by then?
- Is Hurricane Ridge Road typically fully open by that point, or still hit-or-miss depending on weather?
- Also wondering about the Hurricane Hill road — if it’s still closed, how much of a pain is it to just walk it from the main lot?
I’m comfortable hiking and fine dealing with some snow, just trying to figure out what to expect and pack accordingly.
Would really appreciate any recent experiences or general insight — thanks!
