Took our car (bmw series 1 2019) to a bmw specialist garage because it was overheating and the fan was making a dredful noise.
Mechanic diagnosed that we needed a new fan - cost £1200 with fitting. Told us that the part was out of stock and that it would be a 2 week wait. We had to hire a car to cover us for the 2 weeks at a cost of £400. Garage phoned 2 day later to say the part was in and the car was ready.
Got car back an next day and it happened again. Spoke to another garage (one that we trust) and they have told us that it is rare to have to replace the fan and to bring it in because it sounds like its the electronic themometer.
Spoke to second mechanic today who has told me that it was a dirty sensor causing the overheating and fan.
Question is do I speak to the initial garage to see what they have to say about replacing the fan possibly unnecessarily or could it genuinly have been faulty and the sensor also be dirty?
